New SKS procedure codes from January 1, 2024 in Denmark

The Danish Health Data Authority quarterly updates the Health Care Classification System (Sundheds-væsenets Klassifikations System, SKS), which includes coding for procedures, diagnoses, and other codes (e.g., administrative, pharmaceuticals).

In December 2023, the latest code changes were published to come into force on January 1, 2024. Nine new surgical procedure codes and four new medical (MedTech-related) procedure codes concerning cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, interventional radiology, men’s health, peripheral vascular, radiotherapy, and dermatology were introduced.

Some examples of newly added codes are provided below:

  • KPHQ51 Percutaneous insertion of lined stent in the venous system and right atrium;
  • KPJW99D Percutaneous embolization of lymphatic vessels in the abdomen;
  • KKEV31A Transrectal implantation of gold seeds into prostate.
