36 cardiovascular projects funded in Spain
In November 2023, the Agency for Health Quality and Assessment of Catalonia (AQuAS) informed that the La Marató Foundation, an institution responsible for promoting biomedical research by raising awareness in society, selected 36 cardiovascular projects together with eight other projects in a ranked reservation list to be funded.
Since 2001, the AQuAS has managed the process of evaluation of the research projects submitted to the calls for research of the La Marató Foundation. Besides guaranteeing and facilitating the assessment of the projects, the AQUAS’s aim is to make sure that this assessment process is rigorous in its methodological aspects, flexible in its application, and transparent and open to professionals and the population to endorse the quality of the results.
Some examples of granted projects are provided below:
- Role of amino acid metabolism reprogramming and calpain deregulation in fibroblasts activation and diffuse myocardial fibrosis in heart failure;
- Decoding the Endothelial cell intrinsic mechanisms causing portosinusoidal hyperTENSION (EndoTENSION);
- Role of HDL miRNA in coronary heart disease incidence; Customised miRsHDL as a strategy for atherosclerosis treatment;
- Evaluation of Aortyx AX-GEN01 enDovascular bioresorbable patcH for treatmEnt of acute and subacute Type B aoRtic dissection;
- Electroporation in cardiac tissue: from safe and efficient cardiac arrhythmias ablation to new therapeutic indications.
