Key topics
There is only one key theme describing market access for medical technologies in Luxembourg:
- Reimbursement: global budget used for hospital operating costs, Nomenclature of physician services used for reimbursing medical procedures
There is no stand-alone health technology assessment process for medical technologies in Luxembourg.
Reimbursement
Luxembourgish hospitals receive an annual global budget from the National Health Fund (CNS) to cover operating costs. Physician services are reimbursed on a fee-for-service basis according to procedure codes and tariffs defined in the Nomenclature of Physician Services. The Nomenclature is updated regularly (historically – biannually, in recent years – at least once a year) by the Nomenclature Committee and approved by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Security.
Specifics for IVD tests
In-vitro diagnostic tests in outpatient settings are reimbursed via a fee-for-service model according to the Nomenclature of laboratory tests.
